Automation Activities

All the workstations installed in the library are connected to a server computer for better accessing of information resources in electronic format. The Library resource materials have been computerised by NewGenLib software. The NewGenLib is an integrated Library Management Software used for library automation. The software consists the modules given below.

  • Acquisition Section
  • Catalogue Section
  • Circulation Section
  • Periodicals (Journals) Section
  • Binding Section
  • Barcoding of Membership Identity Cards
  • MIS Reports
  • OPAC

The staff and students of the Institute are issued a single bar-coded membership cum library identity card. The users can use the same identity card for borrowing books.


The computerised bibliographic details of the books, CDs, Back Volumes of Journals are available in the library through the OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue) service. The two OPAC terminals are placed at the entrance of the library. Further the users can access the OPAC on intra-net through the web based OPAC module by pasting the links given below. (Intranet Only)


e-Resources are the result of rapid development of internet facility in the libraries. It is most useful to the users of the library. The scholarly resources available by online can be browsed and searched in different ways and thereby saves the users time.

Accesses to e-Resources (NPTL videos, e-Books and e-Journals) are available through subscription/purchase. Users can access more than 400 scholarly resources covering different packages like IEEE, Elesvier Science Direct, ASME, ASCE, ASTM Digital Library etc.

The Institute is Wi-Fi enabled campus and with 10 Mbps internet connectivity. The library is providing full time internet connectivity for its users.

More than Hundred computer systems are installed in the library and connected to the internet and intranet.

NPTEL e-learning Facility: NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) provides e-learning through online Video and Web courses in Engineering, Sciences and humanities streams. The objective is to enhance the learning component and to reduce the tedious and mechanical aspects of some of the current learning methods.

Membership Services: The Central Library has been a member of the DELNET with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the library users. Services through DELNET Inter Library Loan (ILL): Books which are not available in our library can access on loan from other libraries & institutions. The postal changes for both access and return shall be defrayed by users concerned. Document Delivery Service (DDS): Photocopy of the journal articles will avail from another library. Users are requested to contact the librarian for availing this facility. The postal changes for getting such journal article shall be defrayed by users concerned.

User Education Services

In order to familiarize the facilities such as library collection, services, rules, searching in OPAC, navigating library portal, accessing e-resources and retrieving information or documents available, the library conducts orientation programs to the newly admitted students in the beginning of every academic year.

Reprographic Services

A Photocopy unit is available in the ground floor at the entrance of the library to cater the photocopy needed by the user community.

The printing rates are as follows

Black & White : Rs1/- per page

Colour : Rs 10/- per page,

User may also avail Color Scanning facility in central library.

- Rs.5/- for one document

The rates for photocopying and other services are as follows:

Copying rates: One side Rs.1/-

Both sides Rs.2/-

Spiral binding facility is available

- Rs.25/- for 100 sheets of A4 Size

- Rs.30/- more than100 sheets of A4 Size

Reprographic Services

Newspapers constitute an important source of information as they contain the latest information in the form of updated news. Being aware of their essence, the Central Library provides news clippings on the notice board regularly
